From My Deck Looking East was painted during the summer in Wellfleet, making it not quite a plein-aire painting, but close. The white sculpture on the deck is one I carved myself many years ago, during a year when I traded painting for marble carving. It was great fun and gave me very strong arms, but in the end, I returned to two-dimensional work. Here, the sculpture found its way back into my art anyway.
