Dune 3 looks toward LeCount Beach from the base of the dune, where I had dropped my gear nearby before taking reference photographs. I decided to leave it in the painting, a small reminder that this seemingly quiet landscape was very much inhabited. Like the other paintings in this series, the scene came from photographs and notes I made during the summer, although this one stayed with me a little longer and wasn’t completed until the following May.
