Blue Birds grew from memories of my travels in China, particularly time spent along the Great Wall looking out over mountains, lush grasses, and dense shade trees. Rather than working from a photograph, I painted the landscape as I remembered it, allowing memory and imagination to shape the scene. The blue birds were never actually there. I added them later, letting something imagined find its place among the things I remembered.
Currently on loan to the deCordova Museum Corporate Collection in Lincoln, MA.
