Blue Tulips and Mushroom Flower came from a period during COVID when I was sometimes completing a canvas every day. Painting that often meant less thinking and more simply letting the paint move, with loose flowers and drips emerging as I worked. From time to time, I returned to my original reference image: Cézanne’s flower paintings as a way to refocus before letting myself loosen up again.
