Poppies, Apple, Fish has a bit of Matisse in its playful combination of flowers, fruit, and a fish swimming in the vase. The fish also has a real-life precedent: I once put a fishbowl, complete with a live fish, in the center of my dinner table. Unfortunately, I served fish for dinner. No one could bring themselves to eat. Perhaps some still-life arrangements are better left on the canvas.
