Koi began as an experiment with a large watercolor brush, playing with the way it held and released water and pigment across the paper. The subject may have been inspired by visits to my older son, who had a koi pond at his home. Unlike many of my paintings, this one never became part of a larger series. It remained a one-off, and my favorite of the koi that emerged from that afternoon of experimentation.
Painting info: Koi. Watercolor on Arches watercolor paper. 30” X 22”. 2010. $300.
