Flowers & Leaves is one of four paintings inspired by a visit to my daughter’s gardens in Northern California, where the growing season allows vegetation to become wonderfully abundant. Flowers, leaves, and stems overlap and compete for space, giving even a cultivated garden a sense of wildness. I wanted to capture some of that lush, slightly unruly growth on the canvas.
