Flight 2

Flight was the first acrylic painting I made at my house in Wellfleet as a newly single woman. It was fall, the vegetation had gone to seed, and I remember thinking: bleak. How do I paint bleak? Birds were feeding on the seeds and berries around the house and sailing past on the wind, so I brought their movement together with the beach grasses and simply painted. Looking at it now, I don’t see bleakness as much as I see the graceful movement of my arm across the canvas, listening to the wind and not thinking beyond the paint.

Painting Info: Flight. 1996. Acrylic on canvas $600.
