Farmhouse #1 began as a direct study of a Mondrian painting, following his composition closely through the farmhouse, trees, and water. I wanted to understand how the elements of his landscape worked together before beginning to make changes of my own. This painting became the starting point for a series that gradually moved further from Mondrian’s original and more clearly into my own hand.
