Storm Gathering at the Beach began simply as a study of changing weather along the coast. I didn’t intend for the dark cloud gathering overhead to look quite so threatening, but somewhere in the painting it took on the shape of a serpent stretching across the sky. Once I saw it, there was no painting it back into an ordinary cloud.
