Full Bouquet with Spider may be my favorite of my bouquet paintings. Hidden among all that color is a small detail that’s easy to miss: a spider suspended from a fine thread along the right side of the flowers. I’ve always loved the insects tucked into Renaissance paintings, waiting to be discovered by anyone who looks closely enough, so I slipped one quietly into my own.
