This painting was started shortly after visiting a Matisse exhibit at the MET in NYC. I don’t consider this an “after Matisse” painting as much as a much later version of my own painting “View From a Balcony”, 1996, that also had a table and chair(s). I did use the structure of the Matisse painting to organize my canvas as well as the black (shadow?) in his painting of a table and chair. (“View From a Balcony” is in a private collection.)
Painting Info: Portrait of a Chair & Table. Acrylic on Canvas. 42″ x 48″. 2013. $2,000.
