3 Moons was created at Vermont Studio Center. It was the last piece that I completed while there – and took up the last seven days of my stay. Using modeling paste to make a cave wall texture, I carved into it. The stick-reindeer started with one and multiplied to a herd. The 3 circles as moons was my own mythology about the beginning of time. When I unrolled this canvas at home, my elder son – looking at it up side down – saw the village in Lisotho where he had been visiting during the time I’d been painting this. Many people since, have seen huts and boulders before noting the herd.
